Chesapeake and Ohio No. 614 will return to active service once again. After a bit of online teasing, the news has finally come that the big Greenbrier will have a fire in her belly once again.
The locomotive has been acquired by RJD America, changing hands from being owned by Ross Rowland’s American Freedom Train Foundation. The locomotive will also be changing location for restoration. Presently on display in Clifton Forge, VA at the C&O Railway Heritage Center, 614 will be moved to Strasburg, PA to the world renowned shops of the Strasburg Railroad.
The current timeline has the project getting underway in January 2025 with a projected completion in late 2026. Note that those estimates are subject to change.
We here at White Oak Rail are so excited about the prospect of having 614 back in service. We can’t wait to see a proud example of the Chesapeake and Ohio bring joy and excitement to so many people.
